Hope Auerbach Mohr’s Expertise I work at the intersection of art and social change as a choreographer and as a Fellow with the Sustainable Economies Law Center. As a dancer, I trained at S.F. Ballet School and on scholarship at the Merce Cunningham and Trisha Brown Studios in New York City. I performed in the companies of dance pioneers Lucinda Childs and Trisha Brown. As a choreographer, I make performance that “conveys emotional and socio-political contents that just ride underneath the surface of a rigorous vocabulary.” (Dance View Times). My work has been presented by 18th Street Arts Center, ICA San Francisco, 836M Gallery, Baltimore Museum of Art, Johns Hopkins University, Highways Performance Space (LA), di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art (Sonoma), Moody Center for the Arts (Houston), SFMOMA, ODC Theater, Counterpulse, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. In 2008, I founded the nonprofit Hope Mohr Dance. In 2010, I founded HMD's presenting program, The Bridge Project. In 2020, I co-stewarded the organization’s transition to a model of distributed leadership and a new name, Bridge Live Arts. I have recently transitioned out of my Co-Directorship role and into Affiliated Artist status with Bridge Live Arts. My book, "Shifting Cultural Power: Case Studies and Questions in Performance" is a reckoning with white cultural power and a call to action. The book locates the work of curating performance in conversations about social change, with a special focus on advancing racial equity in the live arts. Based on my journey as a dancer, choreographer, and activist, as well as on ten years of leading The Bridge Project, "Shifting Cultural Power" invites us to imagine new models of relationship among artists and within arts organizations—models that transform our approach, rather than simply re-cast who holds power. I teach contemporary dance technique, creative movement, movement for actors, and cross-disciplinary practice that puts dance in dialogue with visual arts. I have taught at PARTS, the Trisha Brown Studio, 18th Street Arts Center, Stanford University, American Conservatory Theater, Shawl-Anderson, ODC, and the Lines Ballet/Dominican B.F.A. program, among others. www.hopemohr.org www.movementlaw.net
